Nelson Mandela (Idris Elba) has always stood up for justice. It started early, when he opted for a career as a lawyer and often irritated by the white plaintiff in the courtroom. But everything changed when a friend of Mandela arrested for no reason and is beaten to death in prison. The court follows the police report, which states that the young man had died a natural death.Mandela subsequently founded with a few friends, the ANC Youth League and begins to denounce the injustice in South Africa. As in 1948, the apartheid is introduced, the situation deteriorated progressively. But Mandela and his comrades continue to fight for justice until they are arrested in 1962. Two years later, they are sentenced to life in prison. So begins a long period of suffering, which 11 toFebruary 1990 continues. But Mandela is not broken, but still full of energy. After his release, he tries to get to your destination but not with violence but with words.

Are you “Mandela” at the Internet Movie Database, a, one obtains a very long list. The Nobel Peace has led an eventful life, and the many entries are proof that there is much to tell of it. Justin Chadwick is now trying to grab Mandela’s life into a two and a half hour movie – a very difficult task, which was not satisfactorily solved, despite enormous efforts.

The film is based directly on the self-written by Mandela’s autobiography “Long Walk to Freedom”, and Chadwick and his team tried as much as possible to cover it.Unfortunately, this results in a rather choppy narrative style, which acts as if here trying to embellish a documentary with acted scenes. It simply lacks only the witnesses who tell of the time, as well as a voice-over, which connects the individual components and explains scenes. But since this is not the case, the film acts as a unified rarely what Idris Elba also really strong performance can not change anything.

But it was also an almost ludicrous projects. From its beginnings as a lawyer, over the years of captivity until the abolition of apartheid Chadwick wants to show everything of importance. But such a project requires a multi-part TV series, which really takes the time to leave work a chapter on the audience. This version here races literally through the decades, with the least of it really sticks or leaves a lasting impression. Thus Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom for two and a half hour epic that feels epic only because of its length. The effort that has required it to reach the goals Mandela, but earn more than this haunted story, the more reminiscent of a checklist than anything else.
