Read the story and Watch The Departed movie if you it interested for you. The Irish mob boss Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson) has scored a major coup. It was his confidant Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon) to infiltrate a mole in the Massachusetts State Police Department. At the same time, the young firebrand Billy Costigan Sergeant Dignam (Mark Wahlberg) gets from State Police Captain Queenan and a dangerous special mission. He is working as an undercover agent in Costello’s crime syndicate.
The only problem is that Costigan must break with his previous life before. Only Queenan and Dignam know of his roles. Over the years, the two moles work always higher in the hierarchy. The “twin brothers” to perform so well that they soon will not know which side they are working now. As a result, they lose their own identity more and more out of sight. To Sullivan and Costigan finally stand against the nail-biting showdown, many policemen and criminals lose their lives.
The inner conflict of the two policemen is Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio written formally in the face. The thrilling cat-and-mouse game between Sullivan and Costigan condenses into a bloody and thrilling finale. In addition, the dynamic camera works by Michael Ballhaus. He has been working for the seventh time with the director together. Through the length and unnecessary love triangle the thriller does not come close to the intense “Infernal Affairs“.
“The Departed” but remains an independent masterpiece. Thus, Scorsese takes place after costume films “Gangs of New York” and “The Aviator” to the old class of his hard and uncompromising gangster dramas in the style of “Mean Streets” and “Goodfellas – Three decades in the Mafia” back.
